Zine Requirements

All pieces created for this project MUST include at least one character from MHA & 1 creature from Pokémon. Merch items may have some wiggle room but will be dependent on pitches and mod approval.

Writers:

If accepted to the project, writers will be expected to write at least one fanfic between 1,500- 3,000 words.

Cover Artists:

Cover Artists will be expected to create one A5 sized cover: front, back & spine. Your piece MUST contain multiple characters and creatures.

Page Artists:

Page Artists will be assigned a Pokémon type from the 18 main types as well as starters and legendaries based on your choices in the application. You will then be asked to create a piece including as many MHA characters & Pokémon creatures as you feel comfortable including. Your piece can either be a one page illustration, 2 page spread or 2-4 page comic (subject to mod approval due to limited space.) The size for the zine is A5. If you are interested in creating multiple pieces, we have the option to create pieces from our merch items such as a Pokémon card depicting your choice of a type-specific Gym leader as an MHA character, prints, or spot arts or a single page page illustration for the reading journal. These will not be requirements and will only be assigned based on interest & your comfortability in creating more than one piece.

Spot Artists:

Spot artists will be assigned a selection of the following based on your preferences:
- small spot art doodles and or completed illustrations to accompany either a fic or decorate pages in the reading journal
- a one-page illustration representing one region in the Pokémon universe through Pokémon from said region & MHA characters within notable areas from that region.
- a Pokémon card depicting your choice of a type-specific Gym leader as an MHA character (if you choose this item you will be assigned a type based on your application)

Merch Artists:

You will have the option to design one small sticker to go on our A5 sticker sheet which will incorporate art from all of our merch artists. This is highly encouraged but not required. You will also be assigned 2-4 merch items based on your preferences & skillset. Extensivity of the designs will be taken into consideration when assigning items so as to ensure no one is too overwhelmed. We are also looking to fill spaces for our Pokémon card set depicting your choice of a type-specific Gym leader as an MHA character.

General Application Guidelines

Guidelines subject to adjustments up until applications open- some things may need adjusting based on interest check results.

ANY WORK SAMPLES MUST BE HUMAN CREATIONS AND MADE BY YOU. "AI" WORK & PLAGIARISM WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION

All applicants must be 18 or older at the time of applying.

Contributors will be required to join the discord server & participate in each check-in. It's the responsibility of every contributor to communicate with the mod team in the event they need an extension or need to drop from the project. Failure to meet check-in deadlines or 'ghosting' without proper communication for more than one check-in may result in removal from the project.

We have a zero tolerance policy to previous engagement in serious anti-rhetoric, racism, ableism, queer-phobia, or harassment of others outside of the zine.

Previous zine experience is not required.

To Apply:

  • Please create a folder for your portfolio in Google Drive with your chosen credit name in the Drive folder's name.

  • Be sure the permissions are set to be viewed by anyone with the link. Unviewable samples will result in applications being discarded.

  • Social media links and personal websites will not be considered as portfolios. A03 links can be used for Writing portfolios but NOT as samples.

  • If any art pieces require trigger warnings, please put them in a subfolder with the folder's name listing the warnings. Any fic pieces must have trigger warnings listed at the TOP of the document.

  • At least one work sample must be BNHA or Pokémon. For art applicants, if you do not have a Pokémon sample, it is preferred that you submit a sample showcasing creature art (animals, furries, dragons, etc) but not required! This is so we as a mod team can see how non-humans look in your unique style and more accurately access your application.

  • You may apply for multiple positions, but you will only be selected to fill one primary role. Different roles will have different requirements, however, if you wish to do additional assignments it will be allowed based on availability. Ex: You are excepted as a page artist. Your primary responsibility will be your page art, but you would also like to create spot art for the reading journal.

  • Pinch-hitters will be chosen from the pool of applicants based on moderator voting.

This project is SFW but NSFW samples are allowed. Please place them in a subfolder labeled 'NSFW' with any necessary content warnings.

Please do not submit any applications containing the following: underage NSFW, body horror/gore, unsanitary/bodily waste, noncon, vore/cannibalism, MCD, graphic depictions of self harm, bestiality or NSFW featuring Pokémon creatures (this includes poké x poké or poké x human), Hyper (this refers to extremely disproportionately large body parts, usually the genitalia)Any applications containing the above will be discarded, however you will not be penalized for content you create outside of the zine. This is not a complete and definite list, please use your best judgement when applying.

Page/Spot/Comic Artist Application Guidelines

  • Please submit at least 3-5 samples of finished works that best represent your style & ability, preferably in the style you would like to create for the zine. You may optionally include an additional portfolio with no more than 5 works.

  • Please remember to put any NSFW pieces in a separate folder with proper warnings if needed.

  • At least one sample MUST be BNHA or Pokémon. If no Pokémon samples are available, it is preferred you include a creature sample (animals, furries, dragons, etc) but not required.

  • Pieces will be judged based on composition, color and/or value, understanding of form & depth, and anatomy.

  • All samples must be linked via Google Drive or Dropbox only. Social media links will not be considered.

  • At least one piece in your portfolio MUST have a detailed background.

  • If you would like to be considered for making a comic for the zine, please include AT LEAST one example of previous comic work, so we can judge how well you carry a plot, readability, style and the layout of panels.

  • Both digital and traditional works are acceptable.

  • Previous zine works are allowed. We will not be sharing any applicant's links outside of the zine's Mod Team.

Writer Guidelines

  • If accepted to the project, writers will be expected to write at least one fanfic between 1,500- 3,000 words.

  • Please submit no more than 3 samples that best demonstrate your style of writing.

  • Each sample should be between 1,500-3,000 words.

  • You may provide excerpts, but at least one sample MUST be a completed work.

  • At least one sample MUST be BNHA or Pokémon.

  • We will be judging samples based on characterization, grammar, punctuation, flow and plot.

  • All samples must be linked via Google Drive or Ellipsus only. Social media links will not be considered as samples, but you may submit an A03 link as an additional portfolio.

  • Previous zine works are allowed. We will not be sharing any applicant's links outside of the Mod Team.

Merch Artist Application Guidelines

  • Please submit at least 3-5 samples of finished works that best represent your style & ability, preferably in the style you would like to create for the zine. You may optionally include an additional portfolio with no more than 5 works.

  • Merch samples are not required but are preferred. We do like to see a variety, so feel free to include illustrations as well.

  • If you have a 'set' of merch items, this can count as one.

  • At least one sample MUST be BNHA or Pokémon. If no Pokémon samples are available, it is preferred you include a creature sample (animals, furries, dragons, etc) but not required.

  • Pieces will be judged based on composition, color and/or value, understanding of form & depth, and rendering.

  • All samples must be linked via Google Drive or Dropbox only. Social media links will not be considered.

  • Prior to pitching, you will be given a complete list of all the available merch items and asked to rank them in order of preference. Items will then be assigned based on preference to the best of our ability. First choices are not guaranteed.

  • Both digital and traditional works are acceptable.

  • Previous zine works are allowed. We will not be sharing any applicant's links outside of the zine's Mod Team.

Restricted Content

Please do not submit any applications containing the following:

  • Underage NSFW

  • Body horror/gore

  • Unsanitary/bodily waste

  • Noncon

  • Cannibalism

  • MCD

  • Graphic depictions of self harm

  • Bestiality or NSFW featuring Pokémon creatures (this includes poké x poké or poké x human)
